Unit Writing
M&M Writing 1
Respond to each of the following prompts in 200-250 words each:
1. What do you want out of life? What’s your dream? If you’re “living the dream” at the age of 40, what would that look like?
2. What do you think most of the adults in our society are currently chasing? What do they believe will make them happy? What do they want?
Writing 2
What are your initial impressions of George and Lennie? (150-200 words)
Writing 3
1. Describe each of the following characters. What do you know about them? How do they behave? Do you see any character motivations from them? What actions do they take? (150 words each)
Writing 4
1. After reading Chapter 3, explain how you see any of the major themes that we've discussed in class in Chapter 3. What does Steinbeck show about them? How do minor characters contribute to those themes? Write about 2-3 themes in 300-350 words total. Refer specifically to events.
Writing 5
1. Describe Crooks' actions and character motivation from Chapter 4. What does he do, and why does he do it? (200 words)
2. What is Curley's wife's character motivation in Chapter 4? Why does she do what she does? (100 words)
Writing 6
1. How do Crooks, Candy, Lennie, and Curley's wife show the themes from the text we've been discussing? Consider who is choosing independence, and who is choosing companionship; who has hope, who doesn't, and how that affects them; what is their "best laid scheme"; and how does the George/Lennie balance come into play. Refer to events and passages with page numbers. (200 words)
Writing 7
1. Comment on the quality of the book and/or the ending itself. Evaluate. Provide 2-3 reasons you're right. (250 words)
